Heartworm

Contrary to popular belief there is heartworm in our area. According to petsandparasites.org, "heartworm disease has been diagnosed in every U.S. state- even in climates that are considered unfavorable to the proliferation of mosquitoes, the insects that spread heartworm". It is important to have your dog tested every year and to keep them on a preventative.

The Elements and your Pets

Here in Durango nature provides a wonderful playground for both you and your Pet, but there are a few things to keep in mind. We have extreme weather conditions, both hot and cold; remember to always prepare your pet for both situations, whether it's a warm sweater in the winter or running your pet in August then riding in the back of a hot vehicle.
Remember that when hiking, skiing, and running in the mountains to have enough water for both you and your furry friend.
Cats and Dogs can be great hunters; this habit can lead to them getting tapeworms.

Porcupine Quills

Porcupine quills hurt a lot - every time. Please do not cut the tips off, it does not make them easier to remove.
