ClingerClinger joined the Alpine staff during the summer of 2012. After being found with her leg caught in her collar near Big Five by good samaratins, Clinger was nursed back to health and quickly became a beloved clinic cat. She loved to play hide and seek ( she would hide and the staff would have to find her each night in order to close) and she enjoyed basking in the sun in the doctors office. Clinger crossed the Rainbow Bridge in April of 2015. She is deeply missed by us all.

AspenAspen was 6 weeks when we adopted her and was only 11 months older than Sage when we adopted her a year later at 8 weeks old. Aspen immediately took on the role of caregiver and protector of all of us, including Sage when we brought her home. Aspen loved everyone. Se was a loving "girl" and loved to play ball (even basketball), go for long walks, wrestle in the snow with Sage, and had the most expressive eyes that let you know exactly how she felt or what she wanted.

Aspen and Sage"Our Girls" had known Dr. Jen since they were puppies and got excited when they came to Alpine Hospital. Sometimes they ran down the hallway to greet the staff. They trusted and loved everyone there. They both lived to be 14 years old. Aspen waited at the Rainbow Bridge in Feb. 2015 for Sage to join her. Sage joined her there in Oct. 2015 and they crossed the Rainbow Bridge together. They are "Our Girls" and were a big part of our lives and still are in our hearts forever.

Scully (passed 10/4/2015)Scully was surrendered to the La Plata County Humane Society in 2013 when she could no longer have puppies. She was also heartworm positive. She was our first Coonhound and the reason there will always be a Coonhound in our family. She was just special in a way that cannot be described

Penny Lane (passed 11/18/15)Penny came to us as a foster for American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue. She was from a high kill shelter in New Mexico. We should have accepted from day one that we would foster fail and she would be with us for the rest of her life. It took about a month to make it official. Penny was a big floppy ball of smoosh with an amazing singing voice that she frequently shared. She left us way too young and way too soon

Lucy ( Passed 1/28/16)Lucy came to our clinic 3 years ago cold and injured. She was nursed back to health and made the clinic her new home. She enjoyed being loved on by everyone and loved sharing lunches with the staff. She crossed that Rainbow Bridge on January 28, 2016. She will be dearly missed by all.

Ada (Passed 3/19/2016)We adopted Ada in 2007 when she was just 18 months old. Dottie picked her out, knowing that she would be perfect for all of us! She had just finished her schooling races at the track, but was too small to be competitive. I'll never forget when we brought her home the first time. She ran inside the house, jumped on the couch, and laid down, just like the couch was meant for her. It didn't take long for her to adjust to her new life style and capture our hearts.. Ada was a very outgoing and friendly girl who loved to cuddle, be hugged, and give kisses. While being small in size, she had a big heart and loved people. She loved to run and be chased by our other Greyhound Dottie. Ada and Dottie were best buddies from the time they met. At the age of nine, on March 19, 2016, Ada suddenly and unexpectedly left this world for her journey across the Rainbow Bridge. She left us way too soon. We miss her, but she will always be loved and remembered in our heart.

Brewsky (Passed 4/29/2016) Sadly, Terry and Dinah announce the passing of their best buddy Brewsky, who died in the hands of his caring vet, Dr. Amber Thompson in Las Cruces. Only two weeks ago, Brewsky stopped eating and shortly after we discovered he had advanced lymphoma. Terry and I spent a beautiful hour with him in a park filled with sun, ducks, and ponds prior to his passing. We were with him every minute oand the transition to the hereafter was calm. Brewsky was born in spring of 2009 to a family in Durango and was adopted by two FLC college girls, who after 4 months realized they were marginally prepared to be dog mothers and business students. The girls and their boyfriends named him Brewsky and we never considered changing it. We met him at a Labor Day block party at Paul and Marty Shepherd's and admired him sssso much (he was soooo cute) that when the girls began looking for a new home, they asked us. We considered for about 3 minutes. We had lost our 16 1/2 year lab, Pumpkin, a year earlier and were ready. Little did we know what a huge spirit this pup would develop, He was a mutt but with great intelligence, knowing the names of many of his toys, figuring out all kinds of things like how to ride in the front seat or how to make sure he didn't have to go to day care. Brew loved a party and when guests were over, he'd put on a show with his toys and then sit quietly, part of the group. He lilked other dogs, played well, but said he didn't want a sibling. A natrual singer, he'd sing loudly along with Terry on any of 3 songs. Terry and I think of him as the focus of our little family and when times were tense, Brewsky was always adored and love continued to flow about us. He made us better as a couple and individually. His great pal, Yoko, took him for hundreds of walks to the top of Raider Ridge and to her we are so grateful. Brewsky is responsible for us meeting many people both in Durango and in Las Cruces. They often didn't know our names, but always knew him. And so many commented on how good looking he was-- one British lady said, "lovely markings, hmmm."His cremated remains will be placed on the ridge behind our Durango home where he walked so many times. We miss him so for his loyalty, sweetness, smarts and beauty. We know he had a good seven years with us as an adored partner and only regret we had him for such a short time. Rest in peace Brewsky.

Dottie (Passed 6/10/17)Dottie was our very first dog, a beautiful dark brindle Greyhound. She had white feet, (that looked like ice skates) and a bushy white tail tip. We adopted her in June 2007 when she was just 2 years old. I remember the day we met her. I kneeled down, called her by name, and she walked over to me and gave me a BIG smile. I knew she was the girl for us. She was shy, smart, and quickly learned the good life. Dottie loved to go on walks, give kisses, ride in cars, and take naps. Her favorite place to nap was on our bed and on her back. At the age of 12, on June 10th, Dottie left this world for her journey across the Rainbow Bridge. I'm sure Ada Baby (our 2nd Greyhound, who already made this journey) was waiting for her. They were "best buddies" and we truly believe that they are now together again, where they can run and play.

Scamper (Passed 6/29/17)I met Scamper many years ago when I was doing a cleaning job. He jumped in through an open window while I was taking a break and jumped up on my lap, wrapped his front legs around my neck and kissed my lower lip very gently. Needless to say, I scouted the neighborhood for his owner and to my surprise he was just abandoned and the neighborhood was feeding him. We adopted him; turns out he was already three years old. Well, that was eighteen and a half years ago and every day with Scamper was a joy!!! Rest in peace my wonderful Scamper; I can't wait until we are reunited in Heaven... Miss you my Sweet boy!!! His vet, Jennifer, confirmed that he was 129 years old in cat years; 21.5 in human years.
Scamper: 1/1/1996 - 6/29/2017 |
Elizabeth TaylorElizabeth Taylor was a big name for a very small cat, so we called her Chabbah or Boodie or Spooky or Princess, or sometimes Baby or Mow-Mow. She charmed everyone she met. She could be sassy or cranky, but she was so tiny and sweet that everyone still loved her and wanted to cuddle her
anyway. She left us on October 18, 2017. Just two days short of what would have been her adoption anniversary. She was 11 years old. We will miss her every day. |
Elsa (Passed 11/21/17)Elsa was a blessing who came into our lives 2 years ago, although it seems like she was here forever. We rescued her and she rescued us with her sweet and loving ways. She loved everyone. Elsa always looked like she was happy and smiling. Elsa loved to go for walks, ride in the car, go camping or just be with us. We miss her but we know she is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for us.

OdieIt seemed appropriate that we got you in the year of the 2002 Missionary Ridge Fire and that we had to let you go during the #416 Fire. You've always been an old soul and we loved you so much. We weren't sure about getting a small dog but you proved that a big dog can come in a small package. See you over the rainbow!!

Chloe (Passed 9/11/18)Chloe came to us just 3 1/2 short years ago. She loved to travel everywhere with us and was the best girl ever. She knew when you were sick and would stay with you. She loved her cat nip and toys. She loved her bed in the window where she would lounge in the sun or watch the birds. And Christmas was her favorite time, she would watch the lights and play under the tree. You are so loved and will be very missed.

Kirby (5/17/19)Kerby was, by far, the least graceful creature on this planet and somehow, simultaneously, was also the most stoic and endearing dog we’ve ever had. He never walked a straight line and always had an awkward waddle - probably because he had hind legs that were bent like barrels, but this never kept him from being happy every moment. People loved his dreadlocks, his personality, and his awesome high fives. He hated walking for exercise, but loved getting out to meet the local squirrels and passersby that would stop and give him attention. People always said he was like a little person trapped in a poodle suit. He was shy at first, probably because he was a rescue poodle, taken from a hoarder who kept him for five months in a locked trailer utility room by himself, before being taken from her. We were so lucky to adopt him from the LPC Humane Society. He was absolutely the kindest creature we’ve ever known....empathetic, endearing, and sweet to all creatures, even squirrels who he would not chase, just watch with interest. Kerby passed away unexpectedly and, sadly, from a hemangiosarcoma. He never wimpered or winced in his final moments, and we hope he passed away at peace. We all miss him terribly, but were so lucky to have had such an incredible companion and most devoted friend. |
Mufasa (3/13/20)
Mufasa, you were the best once in a lifetime friend and connection a girl could ever ask for. Words can't express how much I miss you. I hope you're taking endless naps in what I imagine to be fields of wildflowers and eating all the yogurt and tuna you want. Love you baby boy, see you soon.
